Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance Studies on Molecular Complexes *
NQR studies o f a number of molecular complexes with p-chloronitrobenzene and o-chloronitrobenzene as acceptors and different hydrocarbons as donors were carried out. A linear relationship between the NQR shift and the ionization potentials o f the donors is obtained. Maksyutin’s idea o f a positive shift with respect to acceptors having a quadrupolar nucleus is shown to hold in those systems. ...
متن کاملHydrogen bonding and proton transfer in cocrystals of 4,4'-bipyridyl and organic acids studied using nuclear quadrupole resonance.
Cocrystals of 4,4'-bipyridyl and several carboxylic acids were grown from the methanol solution of the cocrystal formers. Complete (14)N NQR spectra of these cocrystals have been measured using (1)H-(14)N nuclear quadrupole double resonance. The principal values of the quadrupole coupling tensor are calculated from the (14)N NQR frequencies. A large variation in the (14)N quadrupole coupling co...
متن کاملProton transfer reactions and hydrogen-bond networks in protein environments.
In protein environments, proton transfer reactions occur along polar or charged residues and isolated water molecules. These species consist of H-bond networks that serve as proton transfer pathways; therefore, thorough understanding of H-bond energetics is essential when investigating proton transfer reactions in protein environments. When the pKa values (or proton affinity) of the H-bond dono...
متن کاملA redox active proton transfer and hydrogen-bonding system of tetrathiafulvalene-dicarboxylic acid and pyridine bases.
Hydrogen bonds are important in supramolecular chemistry and responsible for proton transfer processes. This manuscript reports new hydrogen-bonding systems of redox-active acid-base assemblies consisting of dimethylthio-tetrathiafulvalene dicarboxylic acid (H(2)L) coupled with pyridine (py), 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bpy), and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bpy). The (1)H NMR chemical shifts of the pyridin...
متن کاملNuclear Quadrupole Resonance*
A resonance phenomenon which is closely related to NMR is nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR), which was discovered in 1950 by Dehmelt and Kruger. All nuclei with a spin > 1 possess in addition to the magnetic moment, an electric quadrupole moment eQ, which measures the deviation of the distribution of the positive charge in the nucleus from spherical symmetry. While e is the elementary charge, ...
